Newbie from Acton ma.
So I’m new here, not officially a member yet but hopeful and on the waiting list. Now I know in the traditional sense I don’t have a true Jeep however I own a 2016 Jeep renegade. The reason I came and joined this site is because my son loves when we go light duty wheeling or over dirt roads. I figured there have to be some people like me who are not hardcore wheelers but enthusiasts. So I’m just saying hello. So now I’ll tell you a bit about my vehicle, it’s a 2016 Jeep Renegade 2.4 tiger shark motor automatic sport 4x4, 265 general grabber at2 tires k and n air filter 2.25 exhaust with bullet type resonator to stock muffler eibach lift springs and swapped over shocks from a trailhawk and a few appearance modifacations. However the most important thing in my car is my four year old son that loves Jeeps
Re: Newbie from Acton ma.
Welcome to the forum. It's nice to find something your son loves to do with you. That practically makes you a superhero! Now if you only had a real Jeep... I just kid you.
BTW.. I spent nearly a year on the waiting list. It stinks but in my case was worth the wait. In your case it will give you time to buy a real Jeep... haha.. ok, ok, ok, just kidding again.

Well thank you Rich, a real Jeep is coming. For now though single dad life dictates a Renegade. Haha

A Jeep is a Jeep is a Jeep.
"Requirements
Jeep Vehicle
Any Jeep vehicle meeting the criteria defined in Article 4 of our BylawsIf it doesn’t say Jeep – it’s not a Jeep! The vehicle must have seat belts for all passengers, and roll bar or steel roof."
..... and other requirements. Check them out here. http://baystatejeepers.com/join-now/requirements/
Welcome to the forum Alex. Keep an eye out for an open spot, we will have one eventually. We have some runs that a Renegade will do fine on, just can't be afraid of of all scrapping you may hear from time to time.

Jeep is a Jeep, I talked with Ian at one point (Former host of Extream 4X4), and he used a renegade in Moab of all places. Said it was a blast, and as soon as he was back, went out and bought one. Don't put yourself short, it's still a Jeep...

Just pulling your leg. I one time took a Kia Sportage up a hill in Massachusetts named after an old phone company (cant use trail name on forum I think).. That was fun! We also got a 4x4 Vanagon up there and a pretty modified late 80s Subaru in the same group. There was a couple other guys in a couple Tacos up there and we got some pretty funny looks from them. The Kia took a little damage but we didn't care.
We have done (as me and a couple friends, not the BSJ community) the Trans New Hampshire Expedition a couple years ago on a self guided adventure. They have guided tours as well. 3 days and 500 miles. Camping at night and seeing some really cool scenery and off road trails during the day. I would bet your Renegade could do 99% of all the off road without much issue. On their website I see pictures of a Porsche Cayenne running the trails! There is a lot that Renegade will do.
Run what ya brung they say. As a father of 4 girls with the youngest just about to turn 4 I appreciate the fun your having with your son. My daughter cries if we don't take the Jeep when we go places.

A Crown Vic did Hell’s Revenge in Moab so a Renegade should be more than capable.

Re: Newbie from Acton ma.
Before the Renegade had been officially revealed, there was talk of them coming out with a small diesel option. I would have definitely thought about getting one of those as a daily driver.
For the trails around here, you need ground clearance, articulation, tires and skill to make it through the woods. The general grabber at2 tires are amazing all terrain tires, I ran them for 3 years on my daily driven wheeling wrangler.
As a note though, the club does require 29" tires as a minimum, and the renegade sport comes from the factory with 27". You mentioned they are 265's, but you don't mention the section width so I can't determine overall height.
Teraflex makes a 1.5" lift for the renegade, once installed, it allows you to run a 225/65/17 (28.5") tire without trimming anything.

Re: Newbie from Acton ma.
Welcome to the forum Alex.
The downsides to your Renegade's platform for off road use is it's lack of low-range and tire size. Only the Trailhawk has a pseudo low-range of 20:1.
I believe the BOD can approve the lack of low-range, but small tires and lack of skid plates will only subject your underside to damage. You'd have to find a spot to install tow hooks as well.
If you can figure all of that out, it would be cool so see that thing on the trail. We looked at one in 2016, but it was too small for our needs.

Re: Newbie from Acton ma.
Hello again as far as skid plates are concerned I'm looking to get some skid plates off a trailhawk (just a matter of time, I work for an auto auction) The tow hook recovery points are on there way (I'm waiting on Avid essentials front and rear bumpers, that come with integrated recovery points) and as for tires, with the lift I already have (I can run up to 31.5 tire as soon as the bumpers are on) I'm trying....it will just take time, I'm trying but I'm on a budget. And I meant to say my tires currently on the vehicle are 215/65r16 not 265s sorry.

Welcome Alex! Love your enthusiasm. If you make it to a run, I’m following you. Finally a jeep that I can say, “If he can make it, I can”.
