RIP KERMIT

Unread post by jsav4589 »

Hey everyone. I've haven't been involved in the club for about a year now, just haven't had the time to wheel. Some of you know I purchased Kelly's old TJ "Kermit" a few years ago. 2 weeks ago I got in an accident during one of the big storms when someone blew a red light and hit the jeeps front fender and wheel. Well I got word today that it's totaled because the front axle is bent along with the frame. Looks like I'm in the market for a new rubicon! Image

Buy it back from the insurance company!
Since it was "totaled" you ought to be able to buy it for just the scrap value which is probably a couple of hundred bux.

Yeah my buddy was telling me to do that. I'll look into it. Might be able to get a trail rig out of this.

Did that with my Saturn when it was "totaled". Bought it back for around $225.
Fixed it up for zero and drive it another 5 years. :)

I totalled mine in 2011 and bought it back. The insurance company wanted it badly. There was no way I was losing out on thousands because they claim it costed that much to fix.. I bought it back and fixed it up with cash to spare to upgrade my gearing and put in lockers..

Dont give up... Please.. I couldn't justify my new 1400$ tires to be just given away

Definitely buy it back. If nothing else I am betting someone here would then buy it off of you.

I would guess the t-case front case half is cracked and the front drive shaft is junk now, it always happens on those when the front axle is bent or the control arm is bent. Look for a crack anywhere around the front shaft out put.

The case half is easily available through Chrysler for $400 and it takes just a couple of hours to replace.

My friend's TJ got wrecked and the frame was bent, but it was only about $250 to have it straightened and trued.

The adjuster said they cannot sell it to me unless I am a licensed buyer and purchase at auction. Bummer.....
