Gear Swap
Called a few shops to get some quotes on a gear swap for my 2012 JKU. Currently have 3.21s, want to swap to 4.56 or 4.88 (haven't decided) these quotes are nauseating . Can anyone here perform a gear swap or point me in the direction of a shop? I will hopefully be looking to get them in within the next few months.

Re: Gear Swap
Yea see, I called Lou...is it REALLY $2400 for Parts & Labor here in the New England area? I have seen on other forums people saying average install prices are $500-$1000. I mean if it's that much it's that much, I was just a little taken aback when I started getting quotes. I was figuring around $1600, almost $1000 less . I'll give Dom a shout and see what he has to say.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Gear Swap
R&P swaps can be a very time consuming process. Lou tends to quote jobs at longer end of the time frame and if the job goes quicker would most likely adjust the bill. He also stands behind the work that's done at his shop (there are some places that don't). JK R&P sets tend to cost more than other Jeeps and there are many companies making R&P sets and install kits with varying levels of quality. So research the different brands and ask what brand is being quoted.
You can't bolt on experience!!!!!!

Gear Swap
As far as pricing goes, expect about $175 for a quality ring and pinion per. axle, and about $225 for a master rebuild kit, again, per axle. Those prices are fairly fixed...I haven't felt with Lou, but have heard good things, Dr Wheels is excellent and will stand behind their work

Re: Gear Swap
My JK has 4.88 in it with 35" tires and it's good. I wouldn't want anything lower, but there are times I wouldn't mind higher.
Edit: Just to be clear I meant lower numerically...

Keep in mind also that Lou, and Dom, are big supporters of our sport and I definitly think that is worth considering when shopping around.

Agreed. Dr Wheels is in the same boat, they're members of CCJC, and Mark is the former president. Don't think you'd go wrong either way.schwalby wrote:Keep in mind also that Lou, and Dom, are big supporters of our sport and I definitly think that is worth considering when shopping around.

Right near the Jeep rally town is a guy that charges 700.00 an axle. If you run out of options. FjR68

Re: Gear Swap
Thanks for all the suggestions. Think I'll be going with 4.88s now instead of the 4.56s
