Rear backup lights, what is a good choice?

Now that I have a tire carrier, wanted to mount a backup light to the carrier (like what Frank has for a setup). What is a good choice for a back up light (set or single light)?

I think you should use some round lights... I think you'd do best the kind that will illuminate what is behind you and come on when you put the jeep in reverse and offer more illumination than the stock lights...

The pair of 2.5" LED lights I put on my Heep work worlds better than the stock lights. Picked them up fairly cheap on ebay.
You can also find 4" LED singles with or without a mounting bracket on there.

I plan on adding a couple small fog light style 55W halogens because of the wide, spread out pattern.

Chris I dont think a ton of folks on the forum have done this mod... I think its a matter of what you can find on the cheap that you dont mind breaking when you back into a tree... I have a single Hella light that is the left over mate from a dead one. when i get to this that is what I"ll use...

Sorry Chris... Like Jeff said, I haven't seen a lot of people who do this, so I don't know how many suggestions you're going to find.

A serious suggestion I can offer.... check out the utility lights available at etrailer.com... They have a nice selection of white "utility" light fixtures which you could get / mount for a bit less than the unit Don suggested which would do a nice job for what you're looking to do.

Chris: I use two universal back up lamps from Advance auto. They were 6 bucks apiece . They arent long range and are 55 watts . I believe they were called implement lights. I know Tractor supply has them also. Its just a wide light to show me whats behind me. I think they were one of the best additions to the jeep. Mine are on a toggle so I can put them on when I want to and can signal an IDIOT behind me with their high beams on. FjR68

I only have one tail light left, which is hidden behind the 38" spare and it has the wrong bulb which doesn't light up as bright.

I just avoid going backwards.



Seriously, I would use a tractor light wired to a separate switch so you don't blind people on the street, but have kick-azz illumination for the trail. That's wha I'm going to do when I put tail lights back on my rig.
