Baystate Jeepers

Hello. I just recently joined Baystate Jeepers and I am from Kingston, Ma. My name is Rob and my other half(Peacefrog) is also a member. I have been off-roading since 2007 and have several friends here and am looking forward to meet the rest of the members and do a lot of wheeling.

My rig is a 1998 Wrangler Sport with a 5 speed manual transmission and was purchased through a private seller in July 2009. It has aproximately 88k original miles.

Modifications: ARB Front Bumper with Mile Marker 10000 lbs.Winch, Aussie Locker(front),4" Rough Country Lift & Steering Damper, Bushwacker Fender Flares, Sundowner Rock Sliders, Arb Rear Tire Carrier, 33" Mickey Thompson MTZ'S on Pro-Comp Black Soft 8 Rims, Best Top Safari Top and OEM Hard Top for winter runs and a 48" High Lift Jack with mount on hood.

Future Modifications; Replace my Craptastic Dana-35 with a Dana- 44 like my other half has with 3.73 Gears, Upgrade all under-carraige body armor, add cold air induction and larger throttle body spacer.

Don't go with 3.73s, go with 4.10s if your running 35s. I went from 3.07 and never using 5th to using 5th and getting 15-16 mpg with 35s. Great acceleration and better milage; win-win, thats most likely one of my favorite mods to my heep.

What he said. 33" tires are about the max for 3.73 gears. Regearing isn't cheap, you only want to do it once. You might want to consider 4.56. Going lower (ratio, =higher number) is better. It will still do fine on the highway at 4.56 on 35"

Thanks for the welcome everyone and all the info! Just bought the Mickey's 2 months ago so won't be going to 35's soon. Very happy with new Rough Country Lift. Original lift was OME 4" with OME Steering Damper. Very rough riding on and off trail. G

Have to agree regarding the 3.73's. They will still suck with 33's. You(and your Jeep) will be so much happier with 4.56's. You might be able to find a Ford Exporer 8.8" rear with 4.10's. Cheaper and more plentiful than a TJ 44 (and stronger too.). If you have any questions, drop a post in the tech section and we'd be glad to help.

I was thinking 4.10 as you can get a front D30 out of a 4cyl tj for cheap and use it for gears. Saw a d30/d35 combo on craigslist from a TJ fro 650 not that Id recommend any swap a d35 for a d35....

I went with the 4.88 in my Jeep but one thing you want to keep in mind is that 4.10 is the lowest you can go in a D30 and it is a pretty thin, personally I won't lock my D30 because of it. You are always going to get people that will argue that either way.

TJ Dana 30's can go to 4.88's. Some of the early CJ's ran up to 5.38's.

I meant 4.88. The SE came stock with 4.10 and that gave me a brain cramp.

Thanks everyone for your input.. I am not planning on going bigger than 33's and will be looking for a Dana-44 in the near future. I will probably go from 3.07's to 3.73's which will be same set up as my wife's 97 TJ. She is very happy with the off road performance of her Jeep.
