TC?

So I may have another TC issue after Rausch. When I was inspecting the jeep down there after the run I noticed what looked like a cut breather line hanging down. I wasn't sure if it was for the TC or tranny. It wasn't attached to anything so I pulled it out. Last night when I got home I noticed that the trailer hitch was wet. I tracked it down underneath and it looks like the driver side rear got hit with oil. The rear of the TC skid was wet on the driver side, but only the lower section of the TC was wet. I topped it off, and the TC took about 1/2 quart of ATF. Could that much oil have shot out the breather hole on the TC? I would expect the top of the TC to be covered if this is the case, but it didn't look like it was. What could it be?

If you've got a manual the only thing which will have ATF is the TC...

Maybe the breather isn't leaking... Could it be the front output seal or the input?

so i figured out the problem. the rubber TC mount was torn in half! therefore the engine/tranny/tc was pivoting around on the engine mounts. looks like the breather got knocked off the top, and the bottom banged against the skid. the tc was leaking out the bottom seal between the case halves. i was able to open it up a little, squeeze some RTV in there and get it tight. no leaks so far! also put in a new TC mount. it sounds so much happier!

That looks like a problem i had a couple weeks ago, not as bad as that one though. Caused a hell of a vibration for me and bad shifting issues.

How often should these be changed? Also do you have to order a replacement or is this something the local auto parts store will stock?

Something one should check a couple of times a year.
The rubber does deteriorate with age. Plus wheening puts a lot of stress on it.

I've always had problems with those, and end up changing out about every 18 months. Last time I noticed that the holes in the skid plate didn't line up with the bolts. They're really slots, not holes, so I lengthened them to fit. Hopefully, with less pre-stress on it, the mount will last a little longer. You can get them from Crown for a lot less than $40
