as im getting my electric squared away in the 95yj i noticed my highbeams only stay on when holding down in the postion. they don't want to stay on when you let it go. any ideas what it could be so i could look for a replacement part.

An issue with the switch itself?

The switch is under the dash but the arm for the turn signals pushes a rod that activates it. The tabs that keep it engaged are on the arm. Need to replace the arm switch

It is that switch yes not the arm. The arm fits into the switch. That is how it was on the cj7's and early yj.

Not sure this applies to your jeep but on a JK you pull the multifunction lever on the left towards you to momentarily activate the high beams [flash your high beams], with the headlights on you push the multifunction lever forward to switch the high beams on and pull the lever back to turn high beams off. The multifunction lever also controls turn signals, turns parking and headlights on and dims dash lights.

well with the YJ its its a 3 button switch to turn healights and parking lights on then off. then you have your multi-function switch with whipers, turn signals and highbeam control. you pull arm to turn highs on then pull again to turn highs off.

this switch in the lower end of the steering column seems like its a pain to deal with. some 1 recommended a upgrade relay harness, im an electrician and going over the diagram doesn't seem like it will work they way i want without modifying it quite a bit. anybody have any experiences with changing this switch out. is it a pain in the ass?

Are you sure you dont push the arm forward to keep them on ? I dont think ive heard of them activating the way your describing . Like KEN said , you pull to flash your high beams and it springs back every time . You push the lever away or forward to keep them on . Try that Dude FjR68

i can double check when i have some time to get to the shop, but i believe its just a pull back to operate and half pull back to flash the beams
