winch recommendations?

Unread post by Hoodoo Man »

So Im in the market for an affordable winch. May try to get it and mount it up before Rauch...Tired of that bread basket in the front bumpa looking so lonely too. ;) Looking to keep it around $500 and just want something reasonably good with at least an 8K pull. What do you run and what would you recommend? I like the Warn 8000 for its price but Im sure there are a lot of good winches out there. Thougts and suggestions?

I use a Superwinch EP9000. Comes with the roller fairlead and pulley block. I've had mine for at least five years without any issues.

Check JP's website... They did some winch roundup articles which you can probably find online in their tech section.

I have a MileMarker EP9500. It's dependable, but SLOW, something like 18FPM. I promise you, you want something faster than that.

I bought a used Warn 9.5Ti and like it but if I bought one new I would get a Superwinch. They make a good product at a reasonable price and they're local.

My old Ramsey REP8000 is slow, but has never let me (or this club) down.

I don't think you can go wrong buying any of the big three. I will add a plug for Warn though. I blew both of my front hub fuses, at the same time, during a large rock assault back in April. I called Warn looking for replacements, but they have been discontinued. The service rep, despite not having a specific part number (they are not available individually), sent me the locking hub rings for their HD hub application ON THE HOUSE! Truly an awesome gesture of appreciation for running their components.

I love being 1 out of 4 and crawling up that rock! *High five with Mark!*

I like that superwinch is close. I don't know what I'm putting on my CJ but they are close to the top of my list.

I have a Superwinch EPi 9.0S, no problems. Has power in and out as well as freespool. The Synthetic rope really jacks up the price compared to the wire cable version. Also need to use the included aluminum fairlead with the synthetic rope.

The application I'm still trying to figure out is how to get it to pull me out backwards. ;)

I've been happy with the Tmax 9k winch. Its also been rebadged as a couple of the other winches, and when I did have a minor problem their customer service was great; they shipped out the part quickly & at no cost to me.

I'd buy a Smittybilt again. But I'd also take a long look at Superwinch

We've had a Warn XD9000i on the Rubi since new, never had any trouble with it. Made in the USA, just like the Jeep.

I've got a Superwinch EPi6000 that I may install on the Scrambler...just for looks.
