NV241OR puking

Unread post by ChrisD »

So finally after ~4 years, I get the Jeep back on the road, drive up to Maine and enjoyed the weekend driving the coast. Headed out to pick up pizza and nothing but smoke from under the passenger side door. Looking under the Jeep, it appears that the TC rear output seal is allowing TC oil to leak from the seal. Was able to locate a seal and the star rubber washer from a dealer in Portsmouth NH and plan on replacing tomorrow.

My question is... why would the seal, which hasn’t seen many miles, go bad?

Anything I should keep in mind when replacing?

A friend of mine had an 04 Ruby that did that like 4/5 times. The dealer finally change the T-Case. They think the vent hole was not drilled big enough or all the way (slag) and partially covering hole. See if you can blow into it. If its old oil maybe its just building to much pressure. His seal would actually blow out. FjR68

Anyone happen to know what the torque spec is for the rear drive shaft mounting flange? The (4) 15mm bolts

Replaced the rear seal, however the TC still has a slight leak. Going to spray some simple green on the TC to clean up and remove the oil staining. This will help with trying to track down the leak.

Driving back to mass, discovered a slight drive line vibe at 57mph. Would like to work on tracking that down this week.

Otherwise she is running awesome. With the VANCO Big Brake Kit installed the Jeep NOW stops and just doesn’t slow down.

Thats the same feeling I had when with 4 wheel disk but still manual . I stole the hydro boost unit and master from an Astro van . My toes do all the work in stead of my leg while pulling up on the steering wheel. FjR68
