Locker Question

Has anyone had any experience with a automatic or lunchbox locker in the rear of a 2007 - 2011 jk? I'm wandering if this effects the traction control system.

It doesn't affect traction control much but it does cause all sorts of driving issues. They are ok in the front if you can live with the noise occasionally when turning hard but they try to lock up all the time in the rear. Like pulling out of a side street on the gas. It will lock up the diff. Winter driving is a trip too! (Understatement)

I’m unsure how it will affect traction control, but any auto locking device, limited slip included causes funny driving issues in the winter. With my limited slip in my TJ, the front end just pushes straight on slick surfaces. Especially in four wheel drive. I tend to overcome that by intentionally oversteering if safe to do so.

True selectable lockers are typically the better choice.

What would be the advantage of an "automatic" locker? Even on the trail, I am locking and unlocking via a manual switch based on what the trail is like.

We put an Aussie in the front of my brother's occasionally wheeled 2010, and it's great for that, but I'd never put one in the rear. The issues stated become VASTLY less in the front, because the locker only locks when it's under power. So 2wd is almost the same (clicking at sharp turns) but in 4wd on slick stuff, you do have to watch for a lot of understeer. An old boss of mine had an auto-locker in his winter beater, and while fun, it was definitely not something I'd want to street in a daily.

As to the TC question: Since that's fed, I believe, by wheelspeed sensors, it shouldn't mess with it... but I can't promise it wont.

I kinda laugh to myself when reading these type of post. My Jeep came with seat belts and wipers. Wouldnt it be nice to go back to simpler times . Oh no , my lane departure burned out , How will I know if Im in my lane ? I dont believe we need half that crap. FjR68

I also don't believe in half of that crap, for me... but if it makes the other morons on the road safer, because lord knows they're not paying attention, I'm for it.

The first time I drove a vehicle with lane departure it freaked me out! I had a rented Chevy Surburban and around 4:30am headed to New Jearsy. All alone on a stretch of 95 South I tried to change lanes without using my blinker. The dash lit up, the seat started vibrating my bum (that actually wasn't bad) and it jerked the steering wheel back into the lane. I was like "Holy S#!÷.. What the he!! was that?".. Figured it out real soon but it shocked me to say the least.

I'm 42 and not many of my vehicles have had much more than ABS. Zero accidents in my driving records. I can pay attention to what I am doing. Don't need my car to do it for me.

I don’t think it makes the roads any safer. I think people start relying on the “safety” devices and forget and depend on them way more then they should. Just look at all the accidents in the news about Tesla’s and being in “auto-pilot”. Once you stop paying attention thinking your vehicle will keep you safe, something out of the ordinary that hasn’t been programmed into the computers will kill you. If you had been actually driving, it could have likely been avoided.

Anyways, the locker or autolocker would keep wheels spinning at similar speeds making the computer think that all is fine. So, in situations where you may expect the traction control to kick in, it may not. If the computer realizes this is happening and has issue with it, I’m not sure.

The only creature comforts I need are heat and air lol. I don’t give a rats rear ended about the rest of...my wrangler is pretty basic but what systems it does have I still want working correctly.
