Chipping Paint

Due to the intimate contact with a tree at GG, I have a case of TCD (Tree Contact Disease) and was wondering the best way to treat it. I'm not as concerned with the dent in the upper left corner of the tail light as much as I am with the cracked and chipping paint, although fixing both would be nice since this is my daily driver.

Anyone here with painting experience? All suggestions are welcome.

If it were mine, i'd sand back the chipping paint until its clear the paint/primer is still adhered to the metal. Then prime and paint it. Of course, i'd not do a good job and it may look good from about 100', but it'll be protected from rust. Then, if money allowed, I'd get some corner armor and cover it up whilst protecting from the next tree attack.

I'm a fan of sanding then primer.. I don't have top coat on mine- its all primer with a clear coat (rustoleum)

I would sand back to the primer as recomended and then decide what you want to do, but DEF get ahead of that rust that will start soon.

Corner guards would certainly be an option, or even just some vinyl would do it, if your not in the mood to paint.
