help me decide: rims

Unread post by Baseshakers »

so it's time to get new rims. I'm looking at a 16"-17" rim in steel. The big question is what to do about beadlocks. I can either purchase a true beadlock rim, or a cheapo rim and stauns. I'd also like to beef up the edge of the rim (sick of having to bang them back out) so i might weld on a beadlock ring even if I use stauns, simply for protection. i've heard the maintenance on true beadlocks is a pain (and this is still my daily driver so i put a lot of miles on it), but if i go with stauns i have to go to lou's every time to get a new tire put on. whadya think?

I think the Stauns are a better option for a DD. You may not pass a state inspection w/ beadlocks since most are not DOT approved. If you want to go through the pain of a 2nd set of tires that would be the only alternative.

any thoughts on changing a tire with the stauns? is my only choice to go to lou and spend $90?

if i jump to 35s i'll probably need inspection tires anyway, they weren't too happy with my rig this year.

I'd wheel the piss out of it.

Slap a Dan Mick sticker on the side and hit the red rocks.

I love my Stauns. They are more pricey but they also act as a run-flat.

so i'm leaning towards the stauns. i'm also thinking about valve stem protection. anyone ever welded pipe on to protect the valve stems? I'd like to protect both the tire's valve stem and the staun's. also, if i weld on a rim protector will sticky weights still work well enough to balance the rims?
