CB Tuning Issue
Can someone help me tune my CB. I have the meter, ran through it when I bought it and got it in range but still have issues. We noticed at 101 that we could hear Ralph talking without issue but not other people talking to Ralph. We were only 2 or 3 jeeps behind Ralph, guessing its not tuned correctly.
thanks
thanks

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Marcy,
I moved you CB tuning post to a separate thread so more people can see it and, hopefully, get you responses faster instead of being buried in a run thread which had nothing in common with your needs.

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Marcy,
Tuning has no effect on reception only transmission. Could you be heard by others clearly? Items that would effect reception are grounds and connection contacts being clean.

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Hope you got it figured out. I had a lot of issues with getting my SWR under control ... I ended up grinding most of the finish off the antenna mount around the mounting holes which fixed the problem. Turned out to be grounding - apparently that's the usual cause of SWR issues. The mount is all rusty now but whatever.

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Here's my question -- did you tune it properly? Legit go to an open field with nothing around you?

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Just back back here to check in..
@Ralph I had put it on that thread thinking someone at the run might be able to assist.
@Dave Thanks, I didn't know it was about transmission. Yes, when tested that day I was able to be heard. I just couldn't hear anyone not near me. I have a dremel and I did grind off a lot, but perhaps not enough. maybe ill just buy a new mount that isn't powder coated at all.
@ asauer17 No I didn't, I did it in my driveway in the middle of the day with no one around.
@Clarke I have a 4" firestik and no ground wire.
Since the issue is with reception, looks like I need to improve the ground.

Re: CB Tuning Issue
Then, it may be as simple as your Squelch is turned up too high. It would "squelch" out the a lower powered signal. To adjust properly, turn the adjuster down until you hear static constantly (engine should be running to account for interference from the electrical system and the engine), then turn back slightly until the static goes away.

I have the exact same antenna and had to run a ground to get it to work properly

Re: CB Tuning Issue
The winner is... Squelch adjustment. It's the same knob as the volume and I think it got turned at some point on the first run. I've never used a CB so no idea what to even look for. I adjusted it yesterday and could hear everyone on the run.
