Thoughts on which Harbor Freight tools are legit

When purchasing tools from Harbor Freight, something are okay to be "cheap" while being cheap. Other items need to be a quality item purchased elsewhere.

I'm looking to purchase a tap and die set, and am wondering if that's going to be a decent purchase. The one I have in mind:

Thanks!

I have the one in your first post. I mostly use it for chasing threads on fasteners and Jeep components and occasionally tapping new holes
The very top center T handle sucks. It comes loose very easily on the taps. I prefer to use a convention T I have in another set for taps.
I've had my set for several years and the taps and dies work great. Just be sure to use cutting oil to make them last.

Yep, taps and die sets are fine, though I agree with Kurt about the handle. Both styles of handle have loosened up on me, and I've resorted to crescents occasionally. The taps themselves are great. I would avoid anything with a battery, as their batteries suck. Hand tools are ok, though they will break... ask me how I know.

honestly, I dont trust much for HF tools, about all I have had good luck with were the screwdriver sets, and the magnetic hex heads that fit into the multi tip screwdrivers.

I wont deny that I find some stuff there and yes I have bought and trashed a few 3/8 drills from them and they were bought for that purpose so that I did not destroy my good drills.

I have heard that the Jackstands are ok but I cant say personally as I have not yet tried them.
