Replacement of my worn Ford 8.8

Unread post by nhdcoye »

I finally got around to posting pics of my 8 yr old rear Ford 8.8 axle being replaced back in late November after discovering a "small" crack in one of the axle tubes :-o .
I was surprised to see how much metal was actually worn off the bottom of the diff as I had been welding a 1/2"bead to the bottom each year, it was very apparent on the new diff cover

Poor man's "garage lift "

Old axle out and next to replacement before removing bracketry

Replacement axle wire wheeled and primed with old brackets removed

Old axle with worn bottom and diff cover and mounting bolts

Gears and locker swapped over and setup with location of spring perches marked

New diff cover installed. Note the 1/2" + of material on the replacement axle and plenty of space below the cover bolts on the new diff cover

Old Vs Replacement, ready for another 8 years of light off-road use

Nice glad to see it was a rather easy swap in for you. Certainly looks like that has only seen "light" use, surprised it happened ;)
