Jeep wont start

Good morning all,

So I had a strange occurrence the other day when I was going to take the heep out for a joy ride. I went out to start the jeep and relax, put the key in the ignition turned it, got all the normal lights and dings, turned the key to start it and everything went dead. I heard the starter try to start, not a low battery start it had plenty of juice to it just one little grr and then everything was dead. Tried the headlights, radio, fans, nothing worked. Popped the hood, battery is fine fuses are all good. Got back into the jeep put the key in, turned, got all the bells and lights radio works fine. Tried to start it, same thing again the entire jeep was dead but the battery still had voltage.

I was thinking that it might be the starter but I have not seen a failed starter completely shut down an electrical system before. Anyone have an idea as to what this could be? currently she is sitting in my garage unable to run

Sounds like a flakey battery connection.
Pull the clamps off the posts, clean post and clamps and put them back on.

Will check that shortly, but when I tested voltage they appeared tight.

If you can put the meter on the battery clamps (not posts) and watch it when you try to start it.
If the headlights go dead see what the meter reads when they don't work.

I had that happen earlier this year. I'd monkey with the ground cable, get in and it would start just fine. It would do it every couple of weeks and I'd do the same thing each time until we were at Rausch and it wouldn't start near the Creek. I think we were waiting for Cassandra to drag over a rock or something (as crazy as that sounds) and I took the opportunity to remove the cable, clean and tighten it up and it hasn't happened since.

I would vote remove and clean battery cables. Had flaky stuff happen like this due to poor connectivity. Good luck and let us know what happend! :)

Well as I had some time yesterday I was able to get out there. First checked the battery terminals and things were ok there, Checked voltages in the battery and all was well, water levels were good as well. I was cleaning things up and putting them back together and decided to pull the negative end off to check the cable and all was well there. I also decided to pull the positive end to check the cable there as well. When I did....the clamp fell apart in my hand, so we have now replaced both terminal clamps with some that I had in stock but everything works great now.
