U Joint

So I'm trying to replace my rear u joint (drive shaft to pinion) on an 04 rubicon with Tom woods double Cardon drive shaft. I have order spicer 5-212x and 5-793x and both have the same size caps. 1 set of caps are a little bigger then the other so straps won't work and not seated properly in pinion. What u-joint should I get? I would prefer sealed.

I think it's a 5 1310x if memory serves me right I can check my spares tmrw. But that depends which rear driveshaft is in it. Woods make 2 different ones but the 1310 is most common.

I ordered 5-1330x. It appears that the 1310x is for regular TJ smaller cap. I guess we will find out if the 5-1330x works, If not Ill try a 1310. Thanks.

Just checked fronts on my woods are 1310 rear is 1330. In 05 something changed in the rear driveshafts on rubicons. So might not be same as yours.

OEM had 1330's in all three positions for both the front and rear shafts. Tom Woods "default" shaft goes to 1310's in the double cardan and 1330 at the differential. If I remember correctly anyways.

I know when I ran my old TJ with a Rubicon axle and np231 I had to run a combo u-joint. Depending on where you got the drive shaft it may be set up for a stock TJ rather than a Rubicon.... Tom Woods has a proprietary U joint that I never could use as I had the need for the adapter u-joint.... May want to see if you have paperwork on the drive shaft to check how its set up.

So what Ish said, but you likely need the commonly available but oddball u joint.... ;)

Simply measure the existing u-joint.
- Diameter of the bearing cap. Dimension C & D below
- Distance from cap top to cap top. Dimension A & B below

1310
Bearing Cap diameter 1.0625" (1 1/16")
Cap top to cap top 3.219" (3 7/32")

1330
Bearing cap diameter 1.0625 (1 1/16")
Cap top to cap top 3.625" (3 5/8")

Also a "3R" joint dimensions are...

2.562 (2 9/16) inches wide between inner surfaces where "C" clips lock in
4 bearing caps are 1.125 inch diameter

Thanks All. Based on Kurts Diagram, it looks like the 1330 should be the right one. I will find out soon.

Be sure to check the dimensions on A, B, C & D.
Some joints are conversion joints such as 1310 in one direction and 1330 in the other.

1330 did the trick. Drive shaft is now installed. Thanks all for the help.
