New Winch Question

Now that I have a new winch, I understand that I need to unspool and respool it before actually using it.
What is the best way to do this?
Is it a one person job or better done with two people?
Thanks!

I would think 2 people. One to operate the winch and one to put resistance on the cable and guide it in.

You can provide resistance a couple of ways, by either applying the brakes or pulling up a hill. One person can guide the cable and operate the winch, but even if you're pulling uphill it's best to have someone in the jeep for safety.

I used a spare tire with cement blocks in it to drag towards the jeep, works when friend are available

I usually connect my winch cable to the plow mount on my truck and and I apply light braking. J guides me left and right so we get a nice even spooling. If you try to do it alone you could end up with too much on one side and it won't all fit.

I went to a mall overflow parking lot (it was empty) and secured my cable to a light pole. Then winch my rig back to the light pole, with the e-brake on a couple clicks
Actually I could've had the e-brake on full, it's all the same on my rig

We can likely help you with this before the next club run that you attend. It does not take very long at all to spool it out and pull it in properly... Also I may be in need of a wrenchfest when I get my Jeep back and if you come to that we can do it then as well if you make it..

Thanks for the suggestion Jeff but I just got back from Dennis Makowski's house where he walked me through it. He's only a couple miles away. You're right. It's a very quick and easy process.
