drain plug in oil pan- the threading on the pan is stripped.

can be boar out and re-threaded for a larger plug.
Has anyone done this before? Anyone want to help? anyone have the tools...

pan is NOT leaking.. just need an oil change and can't do it without fixing.

In theory - Yes
Would have to know the current size plug to determine the next size up plug.
Would require cutting new threads in the pan bung with the appropriate tap.
The problem is some metal shavings from threading may end up in the pan...

I wonder, could you epoxy in a fumoto valve with some epoxy steel?

most auto parts stores sell a self-tapping plug that's slightly larger than the factory plug. I've used them before, they work if you're careful the first time.

Thinking of a helicoil instead of a bigger plug...

Overkill. Just my opinion. Besides, I wouldn't trust that the threaded portion of the oil pan is thick enough to get enough helicoil threads in there to matter. If it's not leaking now, then chances are that the threads are salvageable. Might be time to think about that valve, though - what is it, the Fujimoto or whatever that thing is.

Soooo... The threads were NOT stripped and are usable. Why would a place claim that? Bc they are using power/air tools and won't do anything by hand?

Threads just had to be cleaned. New plug and changed oil at the same time.

A place using air tools on a drain bolt should be eliminated in our list of businesses we use. Good for you with the cleaning of the threads. There is one solution in the future , They have a self tapping plug that goes into the pan and stays there. In the middle of that will be the bolt you remove for the oil drain. The only problem is that its smaller than the original hole and will be slower and not drain completely . The area of the drain has a boss welded to the pan so the thickness isnt an issue if it comes to drill and tap in the future. Glad it worked out. FjR68
