hood vents

i've been roasting stuff under the hood, so it's time to add hood vents. i'm thinking about perforated metal sheet; relatively subtle but still effective. (similar to the AEV hood) i'm trying to decide the best way to install it. i could simply cut a hole and bolt the perforated metal underneath. i could also try and bend the hood metal down to make a smoother edge. anyone good at metal work? any thoughts on how to make a clean install?

And do you want to think about rain (downpour?) while driving, or while at rest? Will the water (or snow/ice melt) sit and freeze in the wrong spot? Just thinkin'...

You could louver the fenderwells. I run a 3 core HD radiator cooling the squirrels, so I've never had heat issues. If/when I slap in the 305, I might be looking for some louver action too.

so the problem isn't the engine temp itself, it's everything else under the hood. i'm not that worried about rain (everything gets soaked anyway) and i may even close up the vents during the winter if ice/snow are a problem.

i'm thinking about this look: http://www.genright.com/ZoomImage.aspx? ... ID=TFF5523

I have the luvered 1s on my fenders The air is moving under my hood Even when I had it as my DD the rain was not a issue If it drops the engine temp it is moving alot of air That was before my genright fenders In the winter nothing goes in my scoopsthe hood is tilted down in front I would go the cheapest way 1st buy a scoop and cut out your hood You can see my scoop in the pic

I ran these on my old XJ. Could only get the louvers from the dealer, the drip pans were not available. I positioned them where the airflow would still exit, yet water dripping in would not hit anything vital.

Install was straight forward, I even painted them to match the body.

You can barely see them in this pic...

There is a link on the page Doug linked to which lists the louvers for $45 / ea (left & right). Doesn't list the drip pans though... Here is a direct link:

http://www.parts.com/oemcatalog/index.c ... atalogid=0

I've wanted to install something similar for a while, but I haven't found the parts I like... I do like these.

I searched for hoods for a Grand Prix ('96) on car-parts.com and didn't find much better prices... $35/ea for the louvers, and they weren't local.

thanks for all the input guys. i'm thinking about the perforated metal as it can be relatively subtle, and should work just as well as the vents. also, im thinking about going with the genright fenders one day and could have the perforated sides there as well.
