Hey Gang,
I'm Dan from Danvers. Just picked up my first Jeep last week - 2015 Wrangler Sport! I have a motorcycle and have done some 4-wheeling and I'm pretty anxious to take the Jeep off road.
The Jeep is still stock, but we'll see how long that lasts
Not sure yet what mods I'm looking to make and would appreciate any recommendations from the forum.
My application went into the mail today and I'm hoping to see you guys on the trails!
Happy Holidays, Everyone!
-Dan

welcome Dan! First thing I would recommend is a slider/rocker protection and then better tires. Lots of JKs here these days so you will fit in fine!

I'm usually a person of few words. I'd like to say "Welcome" and "buy skids"!

Hi Dan
Are you originally from Danvers? I grew up there. Welcome!

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome! So it sounds like protection is going to be my first priority. Makes complete sense, but I'm new to this so I appreciate the feedback.

I'm not. I'm originally from Adams, Ma. and ended up in Boston by way of upstate NY. I lived in Boston for a bunch of years and moved up here a few years back. Love the North Shore!

Hi Dan : Cant wait to see ya on the trail. There are so many directions you can go FIRST . I think a lift and tires gets you further into a trail where then you need more protection. My advice really stinks so dont listen to me. Welcome , lets go play ! FjR68

Dan : Thats true about how many and how much and what first. JustEmptyEveryPocket see the big letters in there . You will get the hang of it. Being you have a 2 door , your model will get you a lot further into a trail than say a 4 door or unlimited. Thats why I suggested a lift and tires over skids. There are some components on a JK that need some attention that were never on a Cj. The JK guys can fill you in on them. No matter which direction you go , You got 4 months to get her , her first scratch so it wont happen on my watch ! FjR68

also don't overlook the used part market on Craigslist and Jeepfourm as well as some of the various other forums. A lot of whats bolted onto my TJ was on someone elses rig before going on mine... Axles, armor, rims and other parts are all someone elses stuff that was an upgrade for me. (what these folks upgraded to from Poison Spyder boggles my mind...

Ha! I've definitely heard the JEEP acronym before, but I don't think it sank in until now! As for the scratch, I drive in Boston enough that it's pretty much guaranteed!

Ooh... great advice! When the time comes to start lookin' for parts, I'll definitely be sure the check "secondary market" first. Thanks!

Thats a great point Jeff. Dan if you have FB . There are two web sites that have nothing but Jeep or off road parts every day. FjR68

Dan - welcome.
Keep in mind that all of the people who are saying lift and tires first drive CJs and TJs, not JKs like ours. Personal experience - get protection first. Start with a beefed up main crossmember like the one from M.O.R.E. The one from the factory will crumple like the piece of tin that it is. Combine that with an oil pan skid, gas tank skid, and charcoal cannister skid and you'll be off to a good start. I would also recommend skids for the lower control arm attachment points, they'll bend pretty easily.
Whatever you end up doing, we'll be glad to see you out on the trails.

Wow Don : Is there anything good on a JK ? If the JK were higher , maybe the weak factory stuff wouldnt hit anything. Remember , a new person will most likely take the easier trail . FjR68
