I have intermittent clunking sound coming from under the jeep when starting from stop. I have checked most typical culprits (loose bolts, transmission mount, transfer case shifter, steering components, shocks, sway bar links etc..) and have come up empty. I thought it might be the front lower control arms so I decided to drop them to check the bushings.

Well I didn't get to far when I got in to trouble. The drivers side cam bolt was rusted to the sleeve of the arm and I destroyed the arm getting it out.

I finally got it out and the bushings were dry and surfaced cracked but not actually not that bad for 124,000 miles.

So now I need new front control arms. I am thinking of replacing them with adjustable ones to eliminate the cam bolts and adjust length for my 2" lift.

Any recommendations on what arms to get. The Internet forums seem to all say currie/Johnny joints.

I'm impressed with Crown control arms, been running them for years - and they were used when I bought them. There's a Crown warehouse outlet in Canton but be careful.......... it's like Jeep Christmas when you walk in Every. Day. Completely surrounded by Jeep parts

I sell a lot of different control arms and honestly, you would not go wrong with JKS lower adjustables.

At 2" of lift, there will be no benefit to plastic bushings on a metal sleeve. It will not flex more, it will not ride better, it will not crawl better.
Adjustable arms won't really help dial in the front caster or pinion angle THAT much, either, because the stock length and cam adjustments will more than work for it.

If it were mine, I would remove the stock lower control arm mounts and replace them with heavy duty weld on brackets IF the holes are oblonged from worn bushings. I would use JKS lower adj arms because the bushing life is superior. I might just use stock arms (if holes are not wallowed out) and weld a skid across the bottom with a similar gage steel. A little extra metal is all it takes to REALLY beef up the stock arms for wheeling duty.

I would also plan now to replace the stock uppers. In my experience, they will wear next, the sleeves will also be seized to the bolts and then death wobble is right around the corner.

I do not think Crown arms (I sell lots of them, too) will adjust short enough for two inches of lift.

I have had the Currie/Jonny Joint arms in for a few years, and they are great. I have had zero issues with those arms, and I do not baby my jeep! I used to have Rubicon Express arms... don't get me started.

I would also recommend all 8 adjustable arms. You'll do another mod some day, and having the complete adjustability is key. I also think having all 8 arms with the same type of ends evens out the stress; if you have flexy bushings on lowers and not on the uppers it will put a lot of additional stress on the upper arms.

A lot of adjustable control arms will not work with 2" lift, because they will not adjust short enough.

Carl I know the crown store well. I live in Canton and go there often for parts.

Think I finally found the source. I just took the rear diff cover off today and broken teeth on the ring gear and spider gears.
I guess its time to regear!
