gas tank skid plate recomendation

So last tuesday I was rear-ended in the TJ. The car slid right under the bumper and smooshed in the gas tank/ exhaust/ and dented a rear shock. So I figured now is the perfect time to put in a skid plate, since it all has to come out anyways. And since there should be at least a little insurance money on the way. Are there any brands I should stay away from ? what do others like?

Kilby makes a stout gas tank skid. We have one under the Rubi.

I still run a stock gas skid.

Gonna "fortify" it the next time I drop the tank with the bottom half of another stock skid.

You spend most of the time on your lid, not going to damage the stock skid that way.

Ordered a Rokmen. should be here soon. Only comes in a Bare Metal. So i'm going to bring it to a frinds farm where we're going to paint it orange with some crazy expensive activated polyurathane paints he has.

are the tank straps pretty common items? I called 2 napas in my area and they said they had to special order?

You can make some tank straps with generic galvy rolled strapping.

Tank straps are probably not all that common... I'd shop around and see who has the best price, but you'll probably end up ordering them if you don't roll your own.

If you're around the Canton, MA you can probably get them from Crown Automotive, over on Rte 138. If he doesn't have them in the store he'll get them from his warehouse next day.
