Tire Woes - be careful where you put your feet (tires)

Coming home from work today, southbound on 128 in the active breakdown lane between Great Plain Ave and 135. I never saw it, but I heard it penetrate the tire. It didn't go flat, but started vibrating like it was out of balance. Pulled off at the next turnout, put the spare on and came home. Here's what came out of the tire...

I plugged it, it'll be my spare from now on, but since I only had 4 I need to put the stock tires back on till I get 4 I can put on the street

For those who are interested, it took 3 plugs to seal it

I hate that "active breakdown lane" crap. I think it's dangerous, especially when you're trying to get on the highway and someone ripping down the breakdown lane buzzes you at 70mph.

Looks like a piece of a coil spring.

Holy Crap  I'm glad it didn't blow out on you!

And I thought I was the shizzle years ago for picking up a John Deere tractor key.

Don's collecting new suspension pieces at the drive thru

WOW, it even had a vice grip attached.

I take it you didn't get the road hazard insurance?

you'd think if they left it on the side of the road it would be free.

I agree, I hate it. But I use it. I do keep the speed differential down, but I use it.

Of course not, why would I pay $10 to protect a $130 investment?

The trick (I have learned) is not to buy it for all 4 tires... Buy it for 1, then when you need to replace it you're covered... Doesn't matter which tire needs replacement, and I think you can buy it again for the replacement.

Wow now that is a puncture! That's the biggest thing I've seen in a tire!
