O2 Sensor, 2000 TJ 4.0L

My CEL is burning bright and it's time to get a sticker. But there's a problem - what Bosch (and others) say is the correct sensor, my Jeep doesn't agree with. It has Cali emissions so it hit the O2 sensor jackpot - she has 2 sensors before the mini cats, 2 after the mini cats, and one each before and after the primary cat

The problem is the connector. My bad sensor is Bank 1 / Sensor 1, or the O2 sensor before the mini cat, that's fed exhaust from cylinders 1, 2 and 3. Bosch says the correct sensor is part number 13280. Note the connector keys are a little offset, the one in the middle is offset to one side


But my Jeep has an oxygen sensor (and connector) that looks like the Bosch 13122, the non-Cali emissions, pre-cat sensor, used on rigs with only two O2 sensors


I'm considering cutting off my old (defective) sensor connector (the one that looks like 13122) and splicing it on the new (13280, Cali emissions) sensor. Every site I check says my rig should have the Bosch 13280 sensor. I'm assuming the wiring is similar but that's a big assumption. Last thing I want to do is blow up my ECM

I looked for sensor specs (V out, speed, etc) and found nothing. I'd plug in the non-Cali sensor but if it's behavior is outside what the ECM expects, I'm not doing myself any favors. What do you think? Slice and splice, or plug in the one that fits? Or maybe there's another option?

EDIT - I found Bosch wiring diagrams, pretty basic stuff. I'll ohm out the pins, just to make 100% sure. Leaning towards the slice and splice but I still want to hear opinions. I'm probably not doing anything for a week sooooooo if you have an idea or opinion, speak up, please and thank you

How hard would it be to put in a different ecm and then use the ones available. Cut off what isnt required in Ma. and go with it. I dont have to deal with any of that so its pretty easy for me to tell you what to do. Sounds like the simple thing to do. If you splice, Id use silver solder and shrink tube. FjR68

good call Mike, thanks. It cost me 2X what AZ charges for their POS and 3X what you can buy on line (and none of them were the correct fit) but the dealer set me up, it worked and that's what counts

And it will last another 125k miles or whatever instead of crapping out on a hill in the rain after dark, in a busy intersection while the feds are on your tail, coming back from a Craigslist used tire search empty handed and broke in a hail of gunfire after 91 days.
