a little whining..
Just wanted to complain that TWO of my THREE Jeeps are out of commission. WHAT!
The XJ had to be towed on Sunday because it wouldn't start. Period. Not the battery or the starter.. maybe the alternator. Who knows.. What I do know is that the shop we had it towed to STILL hasn't looked at it (as of 10am)...
The TJ, I am still driving, carefully. The steering is funky and maybe the rear locker won't dis-engage or more steering components need to be replaced. Yesterday, I was going around a left turn and had to go right to pass a truck that was turning in front of me and I was legit going straight with my steering wheel turned. This will be towed to Elias as soon as we get the XJ back..
In the end... I hope everyone else has a better week then us!!

I'll have some cheese for your whine when you get it here.
Sorry to hear that, Amanda.

Re: a little whining..
The alternator has nothing to do with starting a vehicle. Try to check in with Dennis,he is at R.C. but he had an issue not long ago with his XJ . Dont know what his problem was. Yours sounds like no power to the starter or starter relay. If you jump straight from the battery to the starter , This will prove its a connection or relay issue and not something major. It sounds like your locker is doing its job. It will try to make the Jeep go straight but you should be able to over come it with more or less throttle. If its a front locker stuck , you should be able to feel the resistance in the steering wheel. (jerking) FjR68

Please, enjoy some cheese when the TJ arrives!
Frank-
I have no clue what's up with the XJ. That is the hubbys truck. We originally thought it could be a conenction issue-- but, then again, we replaced a majority of those last year...
And with the TJ, I have a auto-rear locker which was installed over a year ago. The steering is really hard when trying to turn left, even without your foot on the gas going 30mph or above! I drive the TJ every other week for the entire week just to keep it running.
We will see how much $$ all of this will cost.. ugh

Re: a little whining..
I had a no start issue with my XJ earlier this summer. The battery was fully charged plus good fuel pressure and it cranked but wouldn't start. It turned out to be a bad CPS in my case. I replaced the sensor and it started right up.

Re: a little whining..
Amanda,
Was the engine spinning over on the XJ or was nothing happening at all when you turned the key?
If the engine isn't turning over it could be a bad starter solenoid, bad starter relay, bad ignition switch, bad neutral safety switch (automatic trans only) or a "dead spot" in the starter.
If the engine cranks but won't start, it could be one of many different things. CPS being a common one.

We jumped the XJ, still didn't start, but everything was running like radio, lights, etc. Could still be the battery.. haha!
Engine cranks, no start.
Still waiting..
