Warn winch question

Unread post by DDewar53 »

So my brand new Warn M-8000 winch won't roll out under power. I can pull cable off if I freewheel it, and it will pull in under power, but won't let cable out under power. It worked fine Saturday morning before I left the house, but Saturday afternoon when we needed it, it wouldn't power cable out, only in. It's a real pain in the neck. Anybody got any suggestions on how to tshoot this thing? I really stink at electrical stuff, so advice needs to be real basic.

Thanks

Don : I didnt look at your card thing but, If you ask my kids what I can fix--. Its got to be in the remote , its plug-in, or your gonna have an issue in the relays. If you take your cables off the battery , both of them ! Free wheel cable out before testing. hook the black wire from the winch to the Positive side of the battery first. Then hook the red wire to the ground post. Its D C , it wont hurt a thing. Now that you have them reversed it should work in reverse. Now you should be able to power out not in. If this happens it proves the cellunoid pak has a bad connection or a relay in there went bad. There should be heavy wires in there also and if you have a test light you can see which one wont pass power. The colors on mine is red/in yellow/out . The winch motor has two or three wire in the remote relay box , look online for the model you have for the diagram. It will tell you which wire is for power out. It will be that cellunoid . FjR68
