New off road park in the works in PA!!

Unread post by CarmanXJ »

I just read this and thought I would spread the word! I hope this becomes a reality, the more off road parks in the northeast the better! Check out NORA (Noational Off-Road Association) at http://www.nora-usa.com/ if anyone knows any more about this I would be interested!!!!
FUTURE OFF-ROAD PARK IN PENNSYLVANIA! Northumberland County located in central Pennsylvania has plans open over 6,000 acres of old coal mining land to the public for the intended use of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation.

"The Northumberland County Commissioners deserve a thumbs-up and our full support on this projec...t", says Off-Road Hall of Famer, Mark A. Smith and Founder of Jeep Jamboree USA. "Years ago in California, El Dorado County officials got involved with keeping the Rubicon Trail open and today it generates an estimated 30 million into the local community. Now that's an investment worth making".

Barry Yorwarth a local resident of Northumberland County spearheaded this idea a few years ago. He has been working closely with county officials to help them make this project a reality. "I got the idea back in 2005 when I was the co-pilot for Tom Lawlor at the Top Truck Challenge in Hollister Hills, CA", says Yorwarth, "I said to myself; we've got some land like this back in Pennsylvania, why can't we do something like this?". Barry's dad bought him his first Jeep (CJ-5) when he was just 13 years old. Today Barry owns (5) Unimogs and a few Jeeps. "The park is designed to be open for all motorized users not just full-size vehicles, everyone's welcome. The county is planning to have onsite camping as well as parking for RV's".

"It's great to see the County Commissioners of Northumberland take such a proactive leap forward" says Pearse Umlauf, NORA Founder & CEO. "The local communities and residents will benefit tremendously from the development of this park. The park is an economic "center of commerce" for local businesses not to mention the potential jobs it'll create. OHV enthusiasts from across the United States will flock to this new park just for the opportunity to run new trails. This park will allow individuals to recreate in a safe, dedicated environment."

We had a club run in Lewiston at All Wheels in 2008. I think 5 or 6 rigs attended including myself.
So-so dirt and mud trails back then. No real rock stuff as I recall.
Camping spots were dismal...
LOTS of stumps in the trails that were left way too high.
Not a place to see Tread Lightly principals being followed...
Lots of locals half in the bag tearing around the place all day and night.

Don't despare.... Rocky Mountain Terrain Park which is also in Maine is much better.
It, only a bit further up in Maine. We had a club run there last year.
Super camping, a variety of trails, a comp course in the making and catered meals if we want.
Real bathrooms, showers,...

X2 we should plan a trip up there as well! Funny I thought there was a OHV park further north than the one in Lewiston but when I looked for it the only one I could find was in Lewiston... 8-)

2x on the nice things Kurt said about RMTP. John Steele, the owner / operator, is a super nice guy.

RMTP is located in South Carthage, a town up by Bethel....

Any relation to Remington Steele? sorry had to....

I'd love to go here. The girls will be in Swizerland in July. How about the weekend of July 16th?

I can't say for sure, but based on my personal experience I'd say "No..."... 8-)

The RMTP trip last year was when I first discovered the fuel system problems with the WK. I got stuck on the way home and ended up leaving the WK at a dealer outside of Portland ME and driving the XJ + car trailer home in the pouring rain.

Anyway, during the week after the RMTP trip John, having heard about my car problems, was visiting family in southern NH and was kind enough to give me a ride up to ME and drop me at the dealership to pick up the WK on his way home.

Joe - Did you mean RMTP or the place in NY?
