Anyone have a tail pipe cutter I can borrow? Need to replace the muffler on my XJ and it's welded to the cat. Don't think AZ has them in their rental fleet but I'll check

I assume you're talking about one of these guys:
I'd still say sawzall though. Or what The Kurt said.

Looking for something like this...... cuts up to 3 3/4" exhaust pipe
My plan is to cut off the old muffler pipe (on the outside) and retain the cat pipe (on the inside) so I can slide the new muffler over the existing cat pipe. But maybe it will be quicker to just hack it off and get an adapter with the correct ID / OD on each end. But I'm trying to avoid that

Cut it off, and use the adapter. Quicker and easier. Weld the new muffler in and be done.

Sawzall with the right blade! Then pick up the right adaptor.
Your favorite tool store has this:
http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsea ... ipe+cutter if you want to go the hard route!

For your troubles, just buy one at the parts store?
I like a sawzall with a blade by Maven.

ummm no but thanks lmao!
Thanks for the HF lead John - I'm not going to pay $50 at AZ but if I can get it for less than $20 at HF that might be the way to go. I know adapters are an option, I just hate those. They bring back memories of Franken-xhausts on just about every car I ever owned when I was a kid

Ah they really $50? I didn't realize that.
:hangshead:
I have a tubing cuttah like Ahtic Rubi posted you could borrow. It'll cut right through exhaust pipes up to .5" diametah.
I think you can get the adaptah to allow it to fit much largah tubing, like 2.25" exhaust.

I've got an ArticRubi style that'll handle 3" pipe easy!
Little interesting using it under an XJ though

Cut and weld = best results.
