I have an evap leak in my 98 TJ and a check engine light, but that shouldn't matter anymore... right?

I'm getting paranoid.

My TJ is pass the age for emissions.

Correct. 15 years and older do not require emissions. As long as it's not smoking you should be good to go.

All vehicles that are registered in Massachusetts must receive a safety inspection each year. Vehicles listed below must also receive the following types of emissions tests each year:

On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Test:

•Model year 1999 and newer passenger cars, trucks and SUVs, as well as 2008 and newer medium-duty vehicles

ya.. I googled ALOT last night seeing if a "check engine" light would matter if I don't need emissions, but I only saw that the year and smoke.

Wasn't sure- :D

I recently had my 1999 Saturn inspected. The inspection guy told me "this is the last year you need to do emissions because your car will be 15 years old next year".
I asked what if the Check Engine light is on next year? He said it' won't matter at all.
The only "emissions" requirement is that there isn't excessive smoke from the tailpipe.
