1988 YJ 4.2/BA-10, 98,000 original miles, excellent mechanical condition, almost no rust!
Plans are to do a 2.5" spring lift with new shackles and some 33's. Once the JK is rolling again I'll be swapping in a T18/D300, building either a set of 44's or an HP30/8.25 or 8.8, depending on what's cheap. Probably going to build a sport cage too. Of course, there will be a fresh coat of white paint in its future
Yessir! Good news is I've found an HP30/8.25 up in Freeport from a '95 XJ on the cheap I can probably swap in in a day, 4.10 open/open. I'm figuring 3 days of work and I can have the axles swapped and the heep lifted and ready for the trail!

I worked out a deal with a vendor I deal with, he wanted my 42" PBR's and the 5 lug Spyderlocks, I wanted to lift my YJ and get some decent rubber on it. So, finding its way to the brown truck:
2.5" OME spring lift and shocks
1 1/4" shackle lift
32x11.50 Interco SX's mounted on some 15x8" D window steelies
I'm going to call it good on that for this season, y'all can look forward to seeing me explode a Dana 35 in record time

I will take some advice from you guys on something I've been pondering. I have a shot at picking up an HP30 and Chrysler 8.25 for short money, they're 4.10 open/open from a '95 XJ with drum brake rear. Other than welding some spring plates to set it up for SUA, what am I looking at in terms of getting these guys under there? Any info on whether I'll have to change the pinion flanges? Can you think of anything else I might be missing?
I'm going to end up with Doug's waggy 44's and D300 next off season, but I definitely don't want to be fixing a D35 every weekend. I'm hoping for a simple, cheap, reliable (pick any two, right?) solution to wheel on this season.
The 27 spline '95 8.25 will be no better than your 35. In fact, it would be worse, as your 35 at least has retained rear axles instead of c-clips.
The Dana 30 swap isn't worth the effort either.
The only plus would be the 4.10's, but IMO it's not enough of a plus for the work needed to put weaker/same axles in.

Well crap. Research I did turned up the 8.25 being stronger. Couldn't find the exact COT/MOT specs on it but it fell between an AMC 20 and a D44. Something like D35 < AMC 20 < 8.25 < D44.
