Anyone have an ideas?

Sounds like something is hitting the driveshaft to create that noise. Checked driveshaft, tied back front locker cable (just to make sure), steering, wheels, wheel bearings, brake lines, and even tightened the belt, .....

almost sounds like something is tapping on the driveshaft to create that "tin" noise...
Is there a tin mount somewhere that I am missing? that could be cracked?

Sound only happens every so often while driving and seems to be coming from the front right.

This also stumped Chris at Elias 4wd.

Wild guess:
If I'm listening right is it more like a 'ringing' sound? Like a disk brake shield?

I can tell you that its not it!!

Is that an auto or manual? Mount the cam under the Jeep and go for a drive.

The high pitch makes me think something is getting hit, if not in the driveline, then perhaps in the bellhousing.

I'm not a mechanic but it could be the seal to your transfer case coming lose and hitting the moving drive shaft.

Check the shields on the catalytic converter and/or the muffler... They can rust through on one end and make a tinny rattle.

I listened to the video a few times. To me it sounded like a metal on metal scraping/grinding nosie.

Exactly what I was thinking, but there is nothing hitting the drive shaft! When you tap the driveshaft is makes a similar noise to the grinding in the video. However, I can’t see anything that would be hitting.

I tightened the transfer case in September and there was nothing in the way back then!

When I checked last week, again, seems like nothing would be hitting the drive shaft..

I will have to look! Could be coming from the catalytic conv shield since the noise seems to be in that general area.

It’s painful to listen to! Its like… nails on a chalkboard!


I will try to see what I can “see” this weekend when I swap my cars. If not, I may be crap outta luck for a while..
