You can now find Baystate Jeepers on Twitter!

Go to "at" BaystateJeepers to see what we are talking about and who is "following" us now!

If you "follow" us, or have an account yourself, post up, we'll add you in!

Baystate takes a leap into 2013 and Social Media! We are looking to link people to us via the internet. If you are posting pics, add either our website address, our name, or even @BaystateJeepers so our website gets more traffic!

Thanks!!

If you have suggestions for Baystate to follow, or get conversation time with, let me know! I'll see if we can hook up to them!

Lots of SEMA talk this week!

Just posted a link to a topic on our forum!

Perhaps our FB page is not considered Social Media? Is Twitter really needed?

FB posts can also automatically load to Twitter. That is how the Rally account is setup.

Yes, you can have it setup that way, however someone still has to manage the account. Last time I checked only one person "account" can manage a twitter account, versus Facebook where you can have several people manage. So.... who is going to be the gate keeper?

Did you read the post I put in the BOD section? At the very least I wanted to grab our namesake.

All these things can LINK together and drive traffic to our club/website/youtube/etc. to gain some footing for more membership to even know we exist. In addition to any companies we want to work with for the membership sake.

The post you added about having a facebook feed on the home page? Thought that was just a suggestion? Facebook would drive traffic, not sure I agree that Twitter would do the same.

Twitter builds traffic, or at least it did for the Rally. We have had a couple of insentiences where someone follows us on Twitter and then sends us info requests / offers to help. Found a couple of sponsors that way too.

Web traffic and receiving info request are 2 different things. We are going to establish Google analytics to help determine how visitors find BSJ.

Look, I am for anything that get's us more members/traffic and thank Kelly for setting this up. My preferred method of something happening is talking about it first, make sure we are all on the same page.

FTR, this is what I submitted in the BOD section a few days ago. Perhaps it will help people understand the why and the need. We are down in membership, this will help attract viewers and members alike as well as a dialogue tool for working with companies we may like to do business with in the future. I am NOT saying people need to run out and get a Twitter account of their own. Just that Baystate should have one. I know not too many average people use twitter, or even understand it, but it is out there and being used all the time by others.

For the last two years, I have been MIA from Baystate getting my footing for my own business. All this time my marketing person has been after me to do this, that, and another thing to move myself forward. And I have taken some of her advice when I could, where I could. Last week, I attended a Social Media conference and learned even more.

Last night, after chewing on all the info I got, I decided to update my own Twitter account (have had one for quite some time now), and start one for Baystate. I know I didn't ask permission or get input, but feel strongly that this will impact the club in a very positive manner. We now have a Twitter presence that can be found, and even noted on the website, Facebook and our forum, Find us on Twitter; @BaystateJeepers

I learned that if you don't jump on getting your name on Twitter, like anywhere else, someone else could use it first. (even if you want it to remain dead, the name is now held.) I don't think this is the way to go though. FWIW, many people in the industry/wheeling, tools, suppliers of everything we use are already on there! Why not us!?

I learned that we should always link things to each other, all the social media things. I already have "liked/followed" many Jeep type suppliers, Blue Ribbon Coalition, AAA, Tool suppliers, tire suppliers, magazines, etc. I have begun dialogue with folks at SEMA too. It will be a gradual process, to gain recognition, but I think with adding Youtube feeds onto it and funneling traffic in appropriate places and ways, we may see more action come to the club.

One statistic they gave last week was from a guy that is in TV, and has been for over 20 years, he says that in a short amount of time even the internet will be mostly video. So, with that, I am looking to take this Twitter for Baystate by the horns and run with it. It isn't a problem using Hootsuite as a tool to manage it all and send info on a schedule. We can use it as an advertising tool/FREE, a presence on the internet/FREE, a way to share information/FREE, a way to get our message out there/FREE! I am pretty aware of what to post and not post as far as staying PC so no worries there. There will be no power line shots shared! I would like to have tech tips, and other educational matter on there as well. Ideally also having a Blog for Baystate Jeepers would be instrumental in driving traffic to us.

I want to link some things right to our forum, website, and Facebook. I am looking to also have across any pics that get posted our contact info too. At the very least our NAME! All of THOSE places should have info links to the others too. So, the New website should have mention of the forum, facebook and now twitter too.

I don't expect anyone in the club to get a twitter account as individuals. That isn't nearly as important, or necessary, as the club getting up to speed and into 2012 and beyond with the way we do business/get members, and get active! Looking to blow the dust off the membership applications and get some filled out by NEW blood!

This could also be a great way to get sponsorship for events/think Jeep Rally, if there is already a dialogue history with some of these places.

Again, I am totally willing and able to run with this. Just looking to explain why I got all excited about doing this and running with it. I can't wait to add in the Jeep 101 video clips too!

The following is going to sound like a knock, however it is not meant to be one; It is actually a good title for a book.

"So you attended a seminar, and now an expert?"

Web development/marketing is what I do for a living and if I had a dollar for every time I heard the above "I attended a social media/SEO seminar speech", I could retire. No matter what the field, I believe we can all relate from the "I attended a seminar speech".

Kelly, I commend you on your level of excitement and energy, however you need to SLOW DOWN!

Managing Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, linkIn, Google+ can be a full time job and is not fun. Sure, you have extra time and excitement now, but what in 6months or a year? Who will manage these new channels then?

I truly believe that people in our sport, at a minimum, have a FaceBook account and maybe 1/8th of them have a Twitter account (this is just a guess). Is all of this really needed?

In closing, this is supposed to be fun and NOT work.

As one of the youngest members of BSJ... I do have a "twitter" account, however, I have NEVER ever used it! I signed up to enter in a contest.

Anyways, my "generation" is obsessed with it. I don't get it, but whatever.

If Kelly wants to update the twitter account, I am all for that. Esp since she will be the "Director of Events" for 2013. It could be a good way to get more attention and to get those out there for the jeep 101 type events.

I can see Kelly's point of view and Chris' and they are both valid. How is that for riding the fence on a topic. ;)

I think Twitter is a good tool and has proved useful for the Rally. Currently I have not touched it in probably a year or two but FB posts do get crossed posted to it and we do bring in new followers on a regular basses, not many and not too often but enough for it to be valuable for us. I don't think it takes a ton of maintenance. As a back up though we can always link it to a new email, call it twitter@baystatejeeprs.com, then multiple people can have access to that account and therefore also access to twitter. Now it is not a one person job if we don't want it to be.
