Anyone have a diff retubed ? Where, cost. Im thinking to have a rear 44 retubed with knuckles for a front end. Is this a wise choice ? Its as you know a center diff , low pinion rear. Can it be used as a front end ? Are there reverse rotation gears to maybe invert the center section ? Let me know your opinions . Thanks FjR68

It could be done, but it wouldn't be very economical. It would be better if you just started out with a front 44 and built it. A pre-81 full size Waggy axle would work (actually a common CJ swap).
This guy is selling a front 44:
http://www.baystatejeepers.com/forum/vi ... f=6&t=2364 The housing is a bolt in and in total you'd be in about $1500 with a bolt pattern and gear change. There's really no way around that cost unless you go with the Waggy setup and built everything yourself.
Mitchell Diff built the high pinion 44 axle in the front of my YJ. It uses a Ford HD high pinion center section with 3.25", .375" thick tubes. The build sheet provided when I bought it from the original owner had a price of $3,800.00. That includes the Warn 4340 axles and 30 spline outers.
