Well, this time around it isn't the gov'mnt wanting to raise a tax.
And the recording industry already gets a "tax" from radio. It's call royalty fees!!!!!!!!

From doing a little digging, the website noperformancetax.org is the only one calling it a tax. The bill uses the term royalty which means the revenue goes to the industry. Taxes are generally funds collected for government use. I suspect the website is using the word tax to get anti tax people up in arms. When a group or website misrepresents something like this I tend not to believe a most of what they are saying.
While no, I do not like fees added to something that is now free, I understand an industry or individual who works on something wants to get paid. If traditional revenue/compensation streams are being reduced then it seems fair for the industry to change their revenue methods to match the changes in technology. I do not know the status of traditional revenue streams.
