PSA new trend in auto theft Jeep Doors

It's not stereos, air bags, mufflers or any of other weird things that thieves sometimes target. This time it's whole doors. Jeep doors.

Reno police say thieves are targeting Jeep doors, with eight reported thefts in the region during January alone, the Associated Press reports.

Officers say the thefts occur at night, and suspects are taking both metal and soft doors. Doors on models like the Jeep Wrangler are meant to be easy to detach, one of the fun elements of the go-anywhere vehicles.

Authorities say it's a new crime wave that has been reported across the country, with Jeep Wranglers a popular target. Officials say the stolen doors are then sold online, according to AP.

Police say Jeep owners can buy locking devices for less than $50. They also suggest that people who live in high-crime areas remove the doors from the vehicle.

So assuming even just a simple thing of locking your Jeep doors - the thieves still have a way to get into your vehicle and remove them? I know a rag top is easy to break into - my Alpin radio face was stolen a few years back at the train station with no evidence of forced entry - thinking they went through the back window.

Carol they can take the hinges off or pull the nuts off of the door lock. various folks sell locking nuts to "protect your doors" from theives. My TJ does not even have a nut on the door hinges to make it easier for me to take them off. :shhh:

Its a jeep thing. We are going to get robbed sooner or later unless we drive a Cherokee. LOL

It would be funny if they stole my doors as they are both so bent they only fit my body. Then I could get aftermarket half doors and bend them to fit my tub...
