Hey Jess : Cant wait to meet on a trail. I believe we have a Reg and Ins. clause in the bylaws so do some homework before you chop her up. FjR68

Hi Jess, welcome to the forum. Also being from RI/Ma, there are definitely areas that would more than challenge an XJ on 33's. Unfortunately, that was some years ago and those areas may not be legal anymore (actually, the same goes for Mass too). I definitely recommend joining a club to gain legal access to wheeling areas which through membership fees also supports future wheeling.

Here is a list of clubs in the North East Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs web site:
http://nea4wd.org/membership/member-clubs

Some clubs, like Baystate Jeepers, require a registered rig. My other club, New England Four Wheelers are an 80+% active buggy club, so registration is not required. The club is considered at the extreme end of the spectrum though, and may not be a good fit for a full bodied XJ. There are plenty of others in between though. Check out their sites and do some research.

If you decide to keep your XJ street legal, you will not find a better bunch of bums to go wheeling with, than Baystate Jeepers. The camaraderie and fellowship extends beyond the trails here. Baystate is like extended family.

Good luck!

Hi Jess: Welcome and good luck with your build. Were you at one time with Ronin Wheelers? I do remember the pink grill!
