05 soft top compatibility

Will a complete soft top from an 05 TJ fit into my 98 TJ?
I've only every had a hard top and I found someone selling their '05 Softtop, Door Surrounds & Frame off a Rubicon. I'm concerned the top frame may be year specific. Does it matter?

Hi Tony: You could probably contact Domenic's (our vendor listed on our forum) 603-329-9439 and they should be able to tell you or at least refer you to somebody that could. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I did some learnin' and found out that any frame from a 97-06 will fit any of those years, but some of the brackets are not interchangeable. The roll cage padding is thicker on newer TJs and some of the brackets, like for the bows, changed slightly. A complete soft top assembly will swap over and that's what I'm getting, so I should be good to go.
Carol, did you patch up your soft top? I see used stuff on JeepForum all the time.

That is great Tony. Carol's top was beyond repair with badly bent frame and soft top was badly ripped and was left at our landfill. We are borrowing Jeff's hardtop and installed it Sunday at the Cambray Ranch. Thank you for passing along the info. Carol is currently looking for her own used top and let us know if you see any for her 97 TJ,

Hi Tony: Yes the frame and soft top was beyond repair - that was one nasty tree that came down on me.
I borrowed Jeff's hard top for now - scouring Craigslist for a used hard top - I found some too that won't break the bank.
Also another option is like the soft top Jeff has - does not use a frame but attaches on top of the roll bar. I think Rampage and some of the other rag top mfgs. make them. Without a frame, less to catch on.
Thanks for doing the research too - that is good to know.
