NV241OR inspection aka.. break down of my transfer case ;)

Finally got around to opening up the 241 that I just purchased. Before installing I wanted to do a quick look over/inspection to see if every thing looked on the up and up.
1) The transfer case fluid was very clean!
2) I did have to clean off the magnet, was just a little dirty
3) Noticed when I removed the rear cover I could slide the bearing out (see attached photo). I don't think you should be able to press out that bearing by hand, but could be wrong. Also noticed that because the bearing wasn't "pressed" in there was some scoring where the bearing is seated.
4) Noticed one of the gears driven by the fork had a weird discoloring??? Also it looked like gray graphic on the teeth?

Transfer case is finally reassembled and discovered that the only issues was 1 bearing was spun (loctight sleeve retainer) and missing alignment dowel which might be the reason for the vibes. Everything else was solid with the case although there is not much to the NV241OR transfer case. Will be installing the case this week.
Next on the list.. Skidrow engine skid, Gas tank skid plate, OBA and cage.

And the TC is almost out. Top nuts are a PITA

Agreed....
PB and a GearWrench are my solution for them.

So is it smart to remove the 2 top nuts then the rest or the top nuts last?

I usually leave a side nut on partially until I get the other 5 all the way off.
Just insurance it doesn't come crashing down un-expeditly.
Then spin the 6th one off and then slide the tcase off the tranny and lower it onto my chest and then roll the creeper out with the tcase on me.
Sometimes one or more of the studs will back out of the tcase if the stud or nut is rusted.
Can be a PITA as it's tedious backing them out with an open end wrench.

Old case is out, a lot lighter than the 241!

Well got everything all bolted up with making some adjustments to the tub (socket wedged between the TC and tub). Found out that the shifter linkage, even with the advanced adapter bracket just bites. So I ended up ordering the Novak shifter cable setup. Also my 4wd light works again! Will post photos tomorrow.

Also, in order to get a bit more clearance between the tub and TC I ended up ordering the new Rokmen 1/2" BL (trying to keep a very LCOG).

I just used a 2x4 and a sledge hammer to make some clearance above the DS side of the 241 tcase in mine

That worked for the area around the AA bracket, did the 27mm socket between the tub with a jack. However I was only able to get .25 max spacing, figured get the 1/2 BL and tuck the gas tank by 1/2 and get some more clearance. Won't be able to continue on it till next week, hoping for the best!

Id like to know if that bearing went in as easy as it came out. Is there a replaceable race or did it ride on aluminum of the case ? FjR68
