Monday I ordered a Ground Pounder Bumper and Carrier from BESRK on Jeepforum. Same bumper that Schwalby and Wendall Cameron of VT are running. Got to wait for July for delivery though, he's got a lead of 7-8 weeks at this time of year to to tax returns being spent.

Now the question, who around northeastern MA/southeastern NH can be trusted for good powdercoating?

I bet it is going to cost you some $$ to get that powder coated.

I figure it will, that is why I want the right place to do it. I've heard of too many people who've had powder coating peel due to poor prep and application. Like any type of coating, it is all in the preparation.

If you paint it you can touch it up after you drag it over a rock.

i always use paind so it can be touched up every year.

Might do that if the quotes come in too high. Besides, with the length of the LJ behind the axle it does get dragged a lot.

3x on skipping the powder coat... It won't last with the kind of abuse the bumper will get offroad. Better off using a good quality automotive primer and a durable paint you can retouch from a spray can... The paint will be a lot cheaper too!

Just bought a Rock Hard in bare steel and plan on painting it.

I've seen and had more powder coated stuff that has peeled within a year than not.

OK, so the consensus is no powdercoat. Etching primer and paint it is.

If you can paint with a brush and leave no marks , it would be better to buy a quart and brush it on , as spray cans dont have very good paint (pigment) as there isnt enough propellant to push the paint so it thin. If you have a compressor and paint guns , Go to town ! FjR68

Thanks Frank, I've got a compressor and a paint gun and airbrushes and regular brushes and not so regular brushes. LOL Got to remember what my screen name is. Oh and the trick to spraybombs is to use about 5-6 light coats with the proper flash time in between, then let it cure completely before handling it.

Powdercoat doesn't last..
I about to replace my tailgate hinge with new ones and they come in powdercoat, however, I am going to strip it and repaint due to my experiences with
peeling and rust..

If you can do it outside in the sun on a warm / dry day that helps a lot too... Once the metal picks up the sun it gets nice and warm which dries spray paint pretty quickly.
