Anybody got any advice? I'm not a pro mechanic, just want to be able to read, and clear (when appropriate) the codes stored in my Jeeps. Might come in handy on tech days too. So, I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200, read Chrysler codes for 2007 and 2009, reset codes, maybe reprogram for different tire sizes / gear ratios if that's avaialble

Don: If your looking to not only read but clear and recalibrate, be ready to spend more. Mine will let me read, clear or store on O B D 2 /96 and up. I have a patch cord to get to its web site and discuss with the mother computer , the fix and or the top 5 reported fixes based on 1000 repairs. It was more than 200. Id really look around and decide what you want to do with it, and maybe split the cost with friends or BSJ members. After all this will sit in your tool box untill that day some one needs it. I do a lot of side repairs and its getting harder to guess at the problem. Ive had help in paying this off if you know what I mean. FjR68

I got this one. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... stid=14935 I can scan and clear codes and when it scans if gives you a description and not just the code so that is helpful. I never looked at anything more than this though since I can?t tune anything on my Jeep.

I bought a fairly inexpensive one... I think it was less than $100... It has definitely been handy to have and I've let others use it quite a bit. I can read / clear codes, but that is about it. It is good enough and saves the hassle of heading to the parts store. I just google search the code and / or look for it in the FSM.

I'd say stick to a basic one...

It also helps keep the mechanic honest ! You already have a good idea whats up with the vehicle. Readers are good to clear and tell you the problem. I think everyone who opens a hood will end up getting one. FjR68

I ended up with this one. Was kinda in a hurry, the Unlimited threw another code, we were near Sears, and it was on sale. Seems to work OK, read and cleared the code no problems. I'm going to have to replace the EGR valve - dealer wants > $300 to do it. I think I can get the part for less than $100, access is apparently the problem.
