Trouble Code P1404

Donna's 2007 JK Unlimited - CEL came on yesterday, took it to the local Autozone to have it read. Came up with P1404 - "EGR position sensor rationality closed."

Further explanation - the ECM is detecting EGR flow or movement when it is not expected. Probable cause:

1. Failed EGR solenoid
2. Failed EGR position sensor
3. Failed EGR valve

So my question is, even though the truck is out of warranty, isn't this covered under the Federally mandated emissions warranty? Whadya think?

The owners manual would have the emissions warranty info. 8 years / 80,000 miles pops into my head for the coverage period.

looks like EGR is only covered for manufacturer's warranty or 2 Yrs 24k miles, according to this:

http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt

Components covered for 8 / 80 are:

* Catalytic converters.

* The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU).

* The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD).

Had the dealer clear the code, it lasted until yesterday then came back. Going to get an EGR valve and replace it - hope that's all it is. Seems that this is not all that uncommon with these chrysler v-6 engines.
