Quick question... is it legal to drive an XJ on the street without doors? I assume so but wonder because the doors are not factory removable.

Actually, it's only legal to drive without equipment, including doors, if the vehicle was originally delivered from the factory without it. If it came with doors, they're supposed to be on when driving on the street.
That includes our Wranglers

I just spoke with a friend of mine who is a licensed state inspector. He said doors are not required for a vehicle to pass inspection. He did say if the vehicle has doors then all mechanicals have to work...IE: windows, latches, etc...
I asked..."If someone were to pull up in a car with the doors removed it would not fail because of that?" He said no.
Suffice to say, if it passes inspection it must be OK to drive it on the street...LOL

Says nothing here about doors...

I've never seen any consistancy when it comes to inspectors. I went to a guy last year who still measures Jeeps/trucks with a tape measure instead of the calculation.

Just like the PD, laws are up to individual interpretation.
