another regear question (break in period....)

I finally got my R&P replaced. Went with Yukon gears, they recommend a 500 mile break in period. Is it a bad idea to wheel it during that break in period? There is no way I can get 500 miles onto the jeep before the snow run Saturday and I cant afford to replace the set again if its damaged.... how much risk am I at to wheel it in that period? I can likely put 200 or 300 miles on at best.... TIA...

Yukons run pretty well. The 500 mile number is probably more to Yukon's benefit for warranty purposes than anything else. Consider that many off road and drag racers that see no street time immediately start beating on new gears. I would think a week's worth and 200-300 miles of thermal cycles would be plenty to break them in. The trails you'll be running won't be too bad, so I say go ahead and wheel.
Besides, if you snap the pinion, everything is already loosened up. LOL

2x what Joe said... If something is going to go wrong it probably would have by now.

There was a time when I also thought the same. However, not being in a rush to put the jeep back together and being able to use a garage, I took the plunge. If someone was there to help you and you had the extra time, you would find out that you have skills
