So I typically work on my jeep by myself. There have been many instances where I'd like to be able to take a look underneath while I move the steering wheel, drive, whatever. Would a simple lighted USB camera hooked up to a laptop work well? I was thinking about something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826606007 Of course i would prefer something mac compatible, but i can always use the pc emulator. Anyone know much about webcams?

Logitech makes one which is Mac compatible... I'm sure there are others.
They make "security cams" which have IP addresses (some use Wifi) and/or USB ports... They are stand-alone devices (e.g. plug in to AC power, can be controlled remotely). These cams may work better as you can pan/zoom the head in real time, they will record video, and some models have built in lights. A little more $ though. The app to monitor / control the camera was an IE browser based one -- didn't see any that reported Mac compatibility.

I have the logitech webcam for my mac... Not used it a lot. Got it for a job where I was working from home and talking to co-workers at remote locations.
I can't remember the security cam model we used -- was a couple of years ago... It worked OK, but it wasn't really high resolution or anything fancy.
Sorry, I can't give more details...
