So my outlaws celebrated thier 40th anniverasy this year and had the whole fam daimly go out to Cabo San Lucas mexico -the southern tip of the Baja Penninsula. This is the souther terminus of the Baja 1K if Im not mistaken. Nice place to visit and I really wanted to wheel there but family obligations prevented me from taking a jeep out and having real fun. I did manage to score some time in a dune buggy.... If your bored heres something to look at. ;)

the amazing thing is that it rains 4 days a year here. had the top down for all 3 days of the rental. this was a on a lame access road to a public beach that I drove to.

this place was called sierra buggies. they neutered the buggies that gave you a short push thru 1st thru 3rd and died if you didnt shift out immediatly to 4th...

Kristen and I went there durring the Summer for our honeymoon 6 1/2 years ago and loved it, went back on a cruise in February 3 years ago and it was a whole different town. I think MTV ruined Cabo.

Anyway, they used to have a 5 mile track there where you could rent real Chenowith racing buggies with stock VDub motors. Very cool.

That was the one place I got my way. :)

We did go to Cabo Wabo but the whole downtown was a bit of a ghost town that week... Food was OK and we were one of 4 tables with people in a place that seats 200+ Guess Sammy doesnt rate any more... more than half of the adults with me had no clue who he was until I mentioned VH.... ages ranged from mid 30s to mid 20s. Man Im getting old.

There are/used to be some fantastic restaurants in Cabo. Mi Casa, Edith's, The Office. Where did you stay? We were at Villa La Estancia.

Very cool!

The end of the Baja 1000 varies year to year as they change the course each year. Sometimes its a giant loop and ends in Ensenada. This year it ended in La Paz. Last year was a loop.

we were at Haceienda del mar a shearton property 20min or so from Cabo.
It was a nice place and I enjoyed happy hour 2/1 drinks; got the girls virgin magaritas and daddy got shots of tequelia. made the trip a little more enjoyable. 8-)

I saw some people just like this on FOX News the other day...

They had big guns though!

Maybe it's just me but with all the drug wars their having I wouldn't step foot south of the border. Glad you survived!

I had very little input on this trip aside from a whole lot of "yes dear" This would not make the top 200 places for me to take my two girls but it was my inlaws dream and I had to buy into it to keep the family happy. Thankfully Cabo is farily off the beaten path and quite torustia friendly so I didnt feel like I was too much into harms way. We spent maybe 2 of the 7 days out of the resort and when I was headed to the beachy area for my sad little poser shot the wife was a bit jumpy as you could tell we were not in Kansas anymore.... :P

I agree with both of you and i know what you mean Jeff when you said that your wife realized that you werent in Kansas anymore. We had 2 situations like that; the first was when we rented a TJ and drove to this small little artists colony about an hour or so North of Cabo on the Western coast and the other time was when we almost got caught im the middle of a dog fight on a desolate street as we walked to a restaurant that was off the beaten path. There was also the snorkeling/booze cruise excursion in 6-10 foot seas on a catamaran sailboat with the mainsail that got torn on the return trip, but that's a story for another time.
My wife and I love Mexico and have been there a bunch of times but have no future plans to go back. Cabo is fairly off the beaten path but other resort towns are starting to have issues with the drug lords. It's only a matter of time before Mexico completely implodes I think. I'm glad you guys got to experience Cabo while you still can.
