My thought is based on a "short" wheel base Jeep. If you are a 4 door JK and remain stock height you will hit many things , therefore Id lean toward skids. If you go lift and upgrade tire size , Youll be clearing things you wouldnt as stock. When you become comfortable doing that and start trying other options , your going to be at square one. Heavier skids to protect or more lift to clear. Skids wont help you clear anything , they help you protect things that dont like being hit. Try to picture you goal height and tire size , then do it once . FjR68
