Hey Don, Glad to see you finally managed to get onto the forum. Great!shortbus wrote:Ralph i will look under your jeep at the meeting and see what it will take to do spacers and remove the skids then you can decide if you want to drive to springfield ma sunday or another day to my shop and we will do it.
I would appreciate you taking a look. Tomorrow I plan on getting under the Jeep and see if I can begin cleaning out the bolt head protectors.
See you Saturday.

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
Thanks, Dan. I think what my plan of action will be is to install the exhaust spacers and see how those work out instead of jumping right into buying the drive shaft. I'll probably do that eventually, though. Have to get to those bolt head protectors on the skids tomorrow and clean them out so they can be removed.BlackNBlue-ISH wrote:Try going to adamsdriveshaftoffroad.com Prices are the same and i think you can get free tshirts with them.

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
That is a great decision. Drive shafts is still good and you will need to be able to get that hard rock skid off eventually to access transfer or oil pan. Best to clean out the bolts and hammer on a socket. Get the skid off and put spacers in. You can pick up new grade 8 bolts. I purchased some at my local true value. I actually got a couple a little longer so I didn't have to fight getting oil pand skid on and off when I clean or hammer out dents.

When I installed the exhaust spacers I dud experience vibration on my RH oil skid. Fortunately I saved the RH spacer that was included and installed between oil pan skid and the transfer case skid. The spacer drops oil pan skid about 1/4" and eliminates the exhaust loop vibrating on skid.

If you have the spacer still you may want to install when you put oil pan skid back on after exhaust spacers.

Frank - They're needed to offset the throttle body spacer

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
I think it's a horrible JK design issue. I am skidded front to back and constantly dealing with exhaust rattling on skids somewhere. It drives me nuts. I get it all sorted out and then wheel or do work on it and the rattling comes back. Ugh.

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
I was led to believe those spacers increased MPG to help offset the loss from the added skids

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
It's been a few years now, but I don't remember any spacer between the oil pan and transfer case skid. I'll try to remember to check that issue when things are put back together. I do know the oil pan skid has been pushed up and the back edge near the drain plug may be touching. May need a good pounding to create some clearance.Yipjeep wrote:When I installed the exhaust spacers I dud experience vibration on my RH oil skid. Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
Instead of pounding my skid plates straight each year I use a 20 ton bottle jack and a really stout chain.
With the skid plate off I place the base of the bottle jack on the top of the part of the skid that's bent up.
Then connect a chain under the skid and over the top of the bottle jack.
Then carefully jack until the bottle jack push's the skid plate flat again.
Be careful as the chain can slip off the top of the bottle jack unexpectedly.

Re: 2012 Exhaust Extensions
For the past few hours I have been under the Jeep trying to clean out the bolt head protectors. Where the rocks hit on the front side they have both pushed the protector to the back and smushed the aluminum even further against the bolt heads leaving no space what so ever. I have used and worn out every Dremel bit worth trying and barely cleaned out half of the easy side of four of the protectors. The bits wear out before I get a chance to really get started. My chisels are a bit too big and have to pick up a smaller one to try that.
