A simple re-gear task that has snowballed (like all Jeep projects
)
- Replacing the LP D30/D35 3.07's with an HP D30 and a Detroit'd Ford 8.8 with 4.10's
- Replacing the tranny with the original one that was in it when I bought the TJ. Had a blown main shaft and 3/4 synchro hub. Rebuilt it a couple of years ago and have been waiting for the opportunity to swap it back in. The current $40 AX-15 in it pops out of 2nd on a hard decel. Not good to have happen while driving and especially wheeling
- Moving my old YJ's SYE to the TJ tcase (so I can ditch the tcase drop)
- Tom Wood rear DS
- 4.5" BDS suspension (old lift in it was shot, front end sagging, CA bushings trashed, cheesy stock UCA's)
- Skid Row gas tank skid (old stock skid has the whole front right corner rotted out of it)
- New tranny mount (old one had seperated)
- Currie HD tie rod & drag link
- Surface rust on frame that needed to be dealt with before it gets bad.
All the old stuff listed above plus the winch, front bumper, tcase, tranny and shovel have been ripped out and it's on jack stands in the garage. So far I have the rear bumper and shovel sandblasted, the frame is 95% sandblasted. Gotta finish sandblasting today, weld in the stainless bolts for the upper rear shock mount and then start painting it all.
Still need to select some 34-35" tires and rims for it to replace the 32" BFG AT's.
The plan is to get it all wrapped up and back on the road by New Years.
