lowpro mount

Unread post by Baseshakers »

any thoughts on this design? http://www.undercoverfab.com/brackets-a ... 03-06.html

i had to put new spacers in the rear and i'm getting some driveline vibes. if i can drop the transmission back down an inch or so i should be back to the original DS angle which was fine. i also don't trust the rubber mounts to last so this may be the best way to go poly.

Personally, I don't care for the offset mounting of the bushing (torque loading).
I'd just break out the instruments of destruction and drop the area of the mounting pad on the shovel down a little.

Not sure if that's a problem if it's on the lift side, John. When it torques, it'll just twist the trans down onto the skid. If it's already in contact, or close, then there's not too much movement to worry about.

I have both the Lo-Pro and Ultra High Clearance skid sitting at the FD waiting for install. The mount is beefy to say the least, and skid is uber-light at around 50lbs. Matt at Undercover Fabrication is great to work with too, which is always a nice change.

true, but how much do you back up, and how hard?

I'd feel better if there were a mount on both sides, but there's such a thing as overbuilding a product. At some point you have to decide that the benefits outweigh the "problems", and go to market with it.

i agree with ya, at a certain point it is good enough. it's got to be better than the rubber stock one that's in there now. i also have problem with the tranny/tcase hitting the tub so clearance is key. nick, any more thoughts on the design since you've seen it? did you go with the poly bushing?

Do you have poly motor mounts? I've recently heard of a t-case that split it's case because it was hard mounted and the motor wasn't. With the poly bushings the t-case mount and mounting location will have to resist the additional torque twist allowed by rubber motor mounts. I'd think that you'd want to match whatever you have for motor mount bushing material.

A poly Trans/tcase mount should never be used without poly or solid motor mounts. The aforementioned breakage is why.

I went with the rubber to match the stock rubber mm...... I've also found that matching motor and trans mount materials is a good idea since one (rubber) gives alot more than the other. I tried twisting that lo-pro mount and the design seems VERY sound. Looks alot different in person and seems very very stout. I'm actually heading over to the FD to paint and possibly install it.

Installed the Lo-Pro and Ultra High Clearance skid, no vibrations and only 1" deep from the frame rails....

it's in, and the vibration is gone! glad i had the plasma to make clearance from my reinforced jeep medic skid. also had fun when i had to make an insert when one of them disintegrated inside the frame. very stout design, hopefully the bushings hold up.
